Author Guidelines
The Journal of Life Sciences and Biomedicine (JLSB) is an international, peer-reviewed, open-access academic journal published under the auspices of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences. The journal publishes high-quality scientific contributions in the fields of life sciences, biological sciences, biomedical sciences, and interdisciplinary research related to health, biotechnology, and environmental sciences.
JLSB is committed to maintaining the highest standards of scientific integrity, ethical publishing, and editorial quality. Authors are encouraged to carefully follow the guidelines below before submitting their manuscripts.
Manuscript Submission
Manuscripts must be submitted electronically through the journal’s official submission system or via the editorial email provided on the journal website.
All submissions must:
- Be original and unpublished
- Not be under consideration by another journal
- Be written in clear academic English
- Comply with the journal’s formatting and ethical requirements
The journal accepts only one active submission per corresponding author at a time. Simultaneous submissions to multiple journals are strictly prohibited.
Following submission, authors will receive an official manuscript identification number for future correspondence and tracking purposes.
Types of Manuscripts
JLSB accepts the following categories of scholarly contributions:
- Original Research Articles

- Interdisciplinary Scientific Studies
All submissions are subject to editorial evaluation and double-blind peer review.
Language Requirements
Manuscripts must be prepared in professional academic English using either British or American spelling consistently throughout the text.
Authors whose native language is not English are strongly encouraged to obtain professional language editing prior to submission.
Manuscript Formatting
Authors should prepare manuscripts using Microsoft Word (.doc or .docx format).
General Formatting Requirements
- Font: Times New Roman
- Font size: 11 pt
- Line spacing: 1.5
- Margins: 2 cm on all sides
- Page numbering: consecutive throughout the manuscript
- Text alignment: left-aligned (avoid full justification)
- Use standard word-processing tools for superscripts, subscripts, italics, and symbols
Graphical equations and image-based tables should be avoided whenever possible. Editable text formatting must be used for all mathematical expressions and tabular materials.
Manuscript Structure
Manuscripts should be organized in the following order:
Title Page
The title page should include:
- Full manuscript title
- Full author names
- Institutional affiliations
- ORCID identifiers (recommended)
- Corresponding author contact information
- Institutional addresses and postal codes
The manuscript title should be concise, informative, and scientifically accurate. Abbreviations should generally be avoided in the title.
Abstract
The abstract should:
- Clearly summarize the objectives, methodology, results, and conclusions
- Be written as a single paragraph
- Contain approximately 150–250 words
- Avoid citations and undefined abbreviations
Structured abstracts may be required for certain article types.
Keywords
Authors should provide 3–8 keywords immediately following the abstract.
Whenever possible, keywords should align with Medical Subject Headings (MeSH) terminology and internationally recognized indexing vocabularies.
Main Text
Introduction
The introduction should:
- Present the scientific background and rationale
- Define the research problem
- Review relevant literature
- Clearly state the objectives and novelty of the study
Materials and Methods
This section must provide sufficient methodological detail to ensure reproducibility of the study.
Authors should include:
- Study design
- Experimental procedures
- Data collection methods
- Statistical analyses
- Ethical approval information (where applicable)
Previously published methods should be properly cited.
Results
Results should be presented clearly, objectively, and concisely using text, tables, and figures where appropriate.
Avoid duplication of data between tables and figures.
Discussion
The discussion should:
- Interpret the findings scientifically
- Compare results with previous studies
- Explain the significance and limitations of the research
- Highlight theoretical and practical implications
Results and Discussion may be combined if scientifically appropriate.
Conclusion
The conclusion should summarize the principal findings and scientific contributions of the study without repeating the abstract.
Ethical Requirements
JLSB adheres to international publication ethics principles and follows the recommendations of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).
Authors must ensure:
- Originality of submitted work
- Absence of plagiarism, fabrication, or falsification
- Ethical treatment of human participants and animals
- Compliance with institutional and international ethical standards
Research involving humans or animals must include appropriate ethics approval statements and informed consent declarations where applicable.
Declarations
The following statements must be included in the manuscript where relevant:
- Acknowledgements
- Author Contributions
- Conflict of Interest Statement
- Funding Statement
- Ethical Approval
- Consent to Publish
- Data Availability Statement
- Artificial Intelligence Use Disclosure (if applicable)
Conflict of Interest
Authors must disclose any financial, institutional, or personal relationships that could influence the research or interpretation of findings.
If no conflicts exist, authors should state:
“The authors declare no conflict of interest.”
Funding Information
All financial support, grants, sponsorships, or institutional funding related to the study must be transparently disclosed.
Tables and Figures
Tables and figures should:
- Be cited sequentially in the text
- Include descriptive titles and captions
- Be embedded within the manuscript near their first citation
- Be provided in high-resolution editable formats when requested
Image manipulation that alters scientific meaning is strictly prohibited.
References
Authors are responsible for ensuring the accuracy and completeness of all references.
References should:
- Include DOI information where available
- Follow the journal’s required citation style consistently
- Primarily include recent and internationally relevant scholarly sources
Excessive self-citation and inappropriate citation practices should be avoided.
Peer Review Process
All manuscripts undergo preliminary editorial screening followed by a rigorous double-blind peer review process involving independent expert reviewers.
Editorial decisions are based on:
- Scientific quality
- Originality
- Methodological rigor
- Ethical compliance
- Relevance to the journal’s scope
The Editor-in-Chief and Editorial Board reserve the right to reject manuscripts that do not meet the journal’s scientific or ethical standards.
Open Access Policy
JLSB operates as a fully open access journal. All published content is freely accessible immediately upon publication without subscription barriers.
The journal supports the principles of the Budapest Open Access Initiative (BOAI), promoting unrestricted global access to scientific knowledge.
Article Processing Charges (APC)
The Journal of Life Sciences and Biomedicine (JLSB) does not charge any submission fees, article processing charges (APCs), publication fees, or access fees.
Submission, peer review, editorial processing, and publication are provided free of charge to all authors.
