A meeting of the Academic Council of the Department of Biological and Medical Sciences was held

April 15, 2022

A regular meeting of the Academic Council of the Department of Biological and Medical Sciences (BMN) of the National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan was held.

Opening the event, Vice-President of ANAS, Chairman of the Academic Council of the Department, Academician Irada Huseynova acquainted the participants with current issues.

For the first time, the Chairman of the Academic Council spoke about the tasks arising from the speech of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev at a meeting dedicated to the results of the first quarter of this year, on April 12. He noted that the recent problems of food shortages and inflation in the world, the aggravation of such problems against the backdrop of the Russian-Ukrainian war, the need to increase grain production in the country, especially food wheat, etc. He spoke about the issues raised by him, the goals he set and drew attention to the responsibilities of the BTEB institutions in connection with these goals.

Corresponding members of ANAS Alovsat Guliyev and Zeynal Akbarov, who spoke at the discussion, noted that Azerbaijan is able to provide itself with agricultural products.

Then Academician Irada Huseynova spoke about the preparations for the General Meeting of ANAS, scheduled for April 27, 2022, and gave the necessary recommendations and instructions.

Academician Irada Huseynova also touched upon the issue of the third edition of the Red Book of the Republic of Azerbaijan and stressed the importance of intensifying activities.

Director General of the Institute of Botany of ANAS, Doctor of Biological Sciences, Professor Sayyara Ibadullayeva informed about the work done.

Then the issue of the new composition of the Academic Council of the Institute of Microbiology of ANAS was discussed and a corresponding decision was made.

Director of the Lankaran Regional Scientific Center of ANAS, Doctor of Agricultural Sciences, Professor Farman Guliyev 85, Head of the Department of Plant Resources of the Institute of Botany of ANAS, Doctor of Biology, Professor Eldar Novruzov 80, Senior Researcher of the Parasitology Laboratory of the Institute of Zoology of ANAS, Biology Relevant decisions were made on the occasion of the 60th anniversary Doctor of Science, Associate Professor Yegana Makhmudova, Senior Researcher at the Laboratory of Invertebrates of the same institution, Doctor of Biological Sciences, Associate Professor Natalya Snegova and a number of other issues.

A scientific seminar of Iranian scientists was held at the Institute of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology

The scientific seminar of well-known scientists of the Islamic Republic of Iran, professors of Tabriz University of Medical Sciences Sudaba Davaran and Aziz Iftikhari was organized by the Department of Biological and Medical Sciences of ANAS.


The seminar, which took place in the big assembly hall of the Institute of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology of ANAS, was attended by heads of scientific institutions, scientists and specialists of the Department, scientists and professors of Azerbaijan Medical University and Baku State University.


Opening the event, Vice-President of ANAS, Academician Irada Huseynova informed the participants about the Iranian guests. He said that Professor Sudaba Davaran is a professor of pharmaceutical biomaterials at Tabriz University of Medical Sciences and director of the university's Center for Health Innovations. The guest is an authoritative scientist and teacher of organic and polymer chemistry, biomaterials, synthesis of organic compounds, nanomaterials, nanotherapy. He is also the director of the East Azerbaijan branch of the Iranian Nanotibm Society. Sudaba Davaran, who is well known not only in her country but also abroad, is an invited professor of Istanbul Yedditepe University and other well-known universities, a laureate and consultant of UNESCO and other international, regional and national organizations.


Aziz Iftikhari is a professor of Pharmacology and Toxicology at Tabriz University of Medical Sciences. He also works as a manager, consultant and international office coordinator at the Center for Health Innovations at the same university. Aziz Iftikhari also works as a guest professor at a number of world-renowned universities and science centers, including the Izmir Institute of Technology in Turkey, Istanbul Yedditepe University, Drohobic State Pedagogical University in Ukraine, and the Slovak Academy of Sciences. He is the scientific coordinator of the Ukrainian-Azerbaijani International Center for Research and Education in Nanobiotechnology and Functional Nanosystems, the head of several international projects, the organizer of prestigious scientific conferences.


Then, Professor Sudaba Davaran made scientific reports on "Innovative role of nanotubes in human health" and Professor Aziz Iftikhari on "Nanobiosensors and in vitro toxicological methods." Extensive discussions were held around the speeches, the speakers answered numerous questions of the seminar participants.


The seminar also focused on strengthening and expanding scientific cooperation between Azerbaijani and Iranian scientists, joint participation in international projects, joint application of research results and other issues.

The meeting was attended by directors general and executive directors of the institutes that are part of the department.

Opening the event, Vice-President of ANAS, Chairman of the Academic Council of the Department, Academician Irada Huseynova acquainted the participants with topical issues, discussed and positively assessed organizational activities. According to the relevant decision of the Presidium of ANAS, the restoration of science in the liberated territories, the study of the biological diversity of Karabakh, the current biological and environmental situation, the prospects for further development, the preparation of the "Red Book" of Azerbaijan, the problems of the Caspian Sea, infectious diseases, including COVID-19 research, the strengthening of scientific research and training of highly qualified personnel in the most modern areas of biological science, the development of international relations, electronic science, etc. He spoke about the tasks set, the comprehensive plans for scientific research of the BTEB institutes for 2022, the international and all-Ukrainian scientific events planned for the year, and stressed the need to more efforts to implement all the tasks and plans.

Academician Irada Huseynova informed the participants about the personnel scientific potential of the institutes of the department, the distribution of employees by age groups, spoke about the shortcomings, gave recommendations and instructions.

Then, issues of common interest related to the certification of enterprises of the department were discussed, and proposals were voiced.

The meeting also considered a number of other topical issues related to the activities of the division.

In connection with the 32nd anniversary of the tragedy on January 20, 1990, the director of the Institute of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology of ANAS, vice-president of ANAS, academician Irada Huseynova visited the Alley of Martyrs on January 20 - the Day of National Mourning. He honored the memory of the heroic sons of the Motherland, who gave their lives in the struggle for the freedom, independence and territorial integrity of Azerbaijan, and laid red carnations on their graves.
