Journal Policies and Ethical Standards

The Journal of Life Sciences & Biomedicine adheres strictly to internationally recognized standards and best practices in scholarly publishing, as recommended by:

1. Archiving Policy

To ensure the long-term preservation and accessibility of published content, the journal archives all materials through:

  • CLOCKSS (Controlled Lots of Copies Keep Stuff Safe)

Authors are permitted to self-archive preprints, accepted manuscripts, or the final published PDF in institutional, personal, or subject-based repositories in accordance with the journal’s open-access policy.

2. Repository and Licensing Policy

  • All articles are published under the Creative Commons Attribution License (CC BY 4.0).
  • Each article is assigned a Digital Object Identifier (DOI) to ensure persistent identification and citation.
  • Authors are strongly encouraged to register for and include an ORCID iD to enhance transparency and scholarly attribution.

3. Advertising Policy

  • Editorial decision-making is entirely independent of commercial advertising or sponsorship. All advertisements must:
  • Clearly identify the product or service and sponsoring entity
  • Comply with applicable legal, ethical, and health regulations
  • Exclude misleading, harmful, or inappropriate content

4. Marketing Policy

All marketing and promotional activities are subject to editorial oversight to ensure accuracy, professionalism, and alignment with the journal’s academic mission and ethical principles.

5. Plagiarism Policy

  • All submissions undergo plagiarism screening using Turnitin. Cases of suspected plagiarism are handled in accordance with COPE flowcharts and guidelines.
  • The journal also complies with the standards of the Supreme Attestation Commission under the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

6. Authorship Criteria and Dispute Resolution

Authorship is determined according to ICMJE recommendations, requiring:

  • Substantial contribution to study conception, design, or data analysis
  • Drafting or critically revising the manuscript
  • Final approval of the published version
  • Accountability for the integrity and accuracy of the work
  • Authorship disputes must be resolved by the authors’ affiliated institutions. The Editorial Office does not arbitrate authorship conflicts.

7. Copyright and Author Rights. Authors retain full copyright over their published work. Articles may be shared, distributed, or adapted for any lawful purpose, provided appropriate attribution is given in accordance with CC BY 4.0.

8. Author Name Change Policy. The journal respects requests for author name changes arising from gender identity, marriage, divorce, or religious conversion. Updated versions are issued without publishing an erratum unless explicitly requested by the author.

9. Research Involving Vulnerable Populations. Research involving vulnerable groups must comply with:

  • The Declaration of Helsinki
  • Institutional or national ethics committee approval
  • Clearly justified inclusion criteria
  • Adapted and documented informed consent procedures
  • Additional Editorial and Publishing Policies

10. Authors’ Warranties. Authors confirm that submitted manuscripts are original, unpublished, ethically approved where required, and free from copyright infringement.

11. Peer Review. The journal employs a double-blind peer review process aligned with COPE Ethical Guidelines for Peer Reviewers.

12. Author Appeals. Authors may appeal editorial decisions with evidence-based justifications. Appeals are reviewed independently.

13. Supplementary Materials. Datasets, figures, videos, and appendices may be published as supplementary content.

14. Data Sharing. Authors are encouraged to include a Data Availability Statement and deposit datasets in trusted repositories such as Dryad, Zenodo, or Figshare.

15. Permissions. Written permission is required for all third-party copyrighted material.

16. Conflict of Interest. All potential conflicts must be disclosed in accordance with ICMJE standards.

17. Retractions. Confirmed cases of plagiarism or copyright infringement result in retraction following COPE Retraction Guidelines.

18. Editorial Independence. Editorial decisions are based solely on scholarly merit and are free from external influence.

19. Editorial Responsibilities. Editors uphold fairness, confidentiality, transparency, and ethical integrity.

20. Publisher Responsibilities. The publisher ensures preservation, discoverability, and integrity of all published content.

21. Open Access Policy. The journal follows the Budapest Open Access Initiative, providing immediate, unrestricted access under CC BY 4.0.

22. Fees and Charges. The journal does not charge submission, processing, or publication fees.

23. CrossMark. The journal participates in CrossMark to provide updates on article status.

24. Corrections. Corrections, errata, and retractions are handled in accordance with COPE guidelines.

25. Scientific Misconduct. Cases of misconduct are investigated under COPE and ICMJE standards and reported when necessary.

26. Complaints. Editorial complaints are reviewed by the Editorial Office and, if unresolved, referred to COPE.

27. Privacy Policy. The journal protects personal data in compliance with GDPR and international data protection regulations.
